Summer Safety Advice for Water Play
The nice weather is here and summer is quickly approaching so here are some quick tips from our ERT/CPR instructor, Valerie, on how to keep your little one safe.
It takes 60 seconds to drown!
Child drowning deaths are on the rise in Ontario:
-No. 1 cause of unintentional injury deaths among children 1-4 yrs of age.
-No. 2 leading cause of preventable death for children under 10 years.
**life jackets and PFD's (personal floatation devices) are a must!**
Be aware of ponds and backyard pools as young children and toddlers often drown silently because they simply sink to the bottom (no splash, no cries for help). Always stay within arms reach when in or near water.
20% of children and infants' body weight is their head and because of this, they risk falling into a pool or pond from simply looking into water or reaching for something.
Please ensure you have installed high locks on all doors that lead outside.
Be advised that window screens can be easily pushed out by a toddler or a child leaning or pushing on them.
Bottom Line: play safe, stay safe!

Date: February 17, 2011
Product Name: Summer Infant Video Baby Monitors with Electrical Cords
Full Product Description
The recall involves all models of Summer Infant video baby monitors with electrical cords. The monitor comes in various colours and the recall also includes a corded camera.

Health Canada has not received any reports of incidents or injuries related to the use of these products.
Corrective Action
Consumers should immediately check the location of the video monitors, including cameras mounted on the wall, and all electric cords to make sure the cords are secured at least one meter (three feet) away from their child and then contact Summer Infant to receive a new permanent electric cord warning label about the strangulation risk and revised instructions about how to safely mount camera and keep cords out of child's reach.
