Canadian Carseat Installlation Centre

Just a quick reminder - the Canadian Carseat Installation Centre (CCIC) will be closed from August 1st - 15th for installations and inspections. It will reopen Tuesday, August 17th.

From breastfeeding to food introduction, we will discuss the unique nutritional needs of your baby (and you) during this time.

We will track the nutritional needs of your baby from birth to 18 months.

Participants will be provided with a food introduction timeline that they can use as a guide for the first 18 months.

Tuesday August 24th
Toddler Nutrition
(beyond baby food)

        
This course is intended for anyone who wants to understand the nutritional needs for toddlers (from 18 months, plus).

We will cover the basics of nutrition for young children.
What do they need at this stage?

What foods will provide them with the brain and body fuels they require for optimal growth and development?

This class will include discussion and plenty of ideas for feeding picky eaters a variety of foods. 

 

$25 per 1 hour session
$45 when you sign up for both.

Website of the Week: Phil and Ted's

In honour of the soon to be arriving, Smart Buggy, this week's website is Phil and Ted's. Phil and Ted's has been innovating its way through the baby business for the last few years. It started with the radical concept of the second seat (turning a single stroller into a double! who would have thought! they did!). Over the last few years they have created the Traveller (a lightweight playpen), the Me Too high chair (a portable table chair/booster) and the High Pod (a high chair that reaches counter height). The Smart buggy will soon be arriving in store.

Their website is great example of the energy and sheer zaniness that Phil and Ted's brings to their everyday business. But don't let the levity fool you...there isn't much they've missed on their website. From dimensions, specifications, instructions..it is pretty much a one stop shop for all things Phil and Ted's.

They also have a great selection of videos on YouTube highlighting new products and instructional how to videos.

P.S. Phil and Ted's is based out of Newtown, New Zealand..just south of Wellington. New Zealand is truly the only country I've ever been to that can rival Canada in its sheer natural beauty... that and crazy ways to throw yourself off bridges, out of planes, or down a hill in a plastic bubble. Yes it's possible..It's called zorbing.

Stokke in July/August's House Beautiful!

The Stokke Tripp Trapp is on the cover of this month's House Beautiful.

This month's issue focuses on living in small spaces and one of the feature stories is about a family in New York City living 390 sq feet.  A Stokke Tripp Trapp has long been a favourite of any space challenged family due to its longevity. The Tripp Trapp will grow with a little one from 6 months as a high chair to an eventual desk chair or just a regular chair in a teenager's room. It takes up to 300 lbs of weight.

Website of the Week: Design Mom

Gabrielle Blair of Design Mom describes her blog as where design and motherhood intersect and she definitely fulfills that promise. Design Mom is filled with posts about decor, clothing and a healthy dose of DIY. Find out how to make 2 toddler beds for $75 (U.S.) or to make a large mural of Napoleon Dynamite (or anyone you choose) for a wall.

A personal favorite series from Design Mom is her recent Birth Stories series. She recently gave birth to her sixth child and while she was pregnant she was posting stories from women around the world about their pregnancies, their labours and their adoptions. Often touching, always heartwarming these real life tales will enthrall and hook you, just like they did me.

Gabrielle is also one of the founders of kirtsy which is a website where users can submit links/content to read. It was there that I found Generatus.
